~~ February~~

February was named after the Latin term februum, which means purification, via the purification ritual Februa held on February 15 (full moon) in the old lunar Roman Calender.February is shared by both Ash and Rowan in the Celtic lunar calendar. According to the ancient Druidic Ogham, the Ash is a transitional symbol - making it a fitting icon for February - a month in which Spring is just beginning its ascension. Ash is a sign of creation and connects new life to our awareness where once there may have been a bleak outlook. In-line with many festivals of renewal in February, the Ash is also symbolic of rebirth

 ~~ December~~

The name December - decem means "ten".

 December was also the tenth month in the Roman Calender until a monthless winter period was divided between January and February.

December starts on the same day as September every year and ends on the same day as April every year.

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.

~Norman Vincent Peale

Winter came down to our home one night
Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow,
And we, we were children once again.

And the days dwindle down To a precious few, September, November - And these few precious days I'd spend with you, These golden days I'd spend with you

Brew me a cup for a winter's night.
For the wind howls loud and the furies fight;
Spice it with love and stir it with care,
And I'll toast our bright eyes,
my sweetheart fair.

Of winter's lifeless world each tree
Now seems a perfect part;
Yet each one holds summer's secret
Deep down within its heart.

~ January ~

January was established as the first, the first month of the year by the Roman Calender. It was named after the God "Janus" (Latin for door.) Janus has two faces, one that allowed him to look backwards into the old year and one that allowed him to look foward into the new one at the same time. He was the 'spirit of the opening.' The God of the beginning and the end.

~  November ~

"The name 'November' is believed to derive from 'novem' which is the Latin for the number 'nine'.  In the ancient
Roman calendar November was the ninth month after March.  As part of the seasonal calendar November is the
time of the 'Snow Moon' according to Pagan beliefs and the period described as the 'Moon of the Falling Leaves'

"In the garden, Autumn is, indeed the crowning glory of the year, bringing us the fruition of months of thought
and care and toil.  And at no season, safe perhaps in Daffodil time, do we get such superb colour effects as
from August to November."

There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself.
